Plastic Pipe Vacuum Sizing Tank with Spray & Immersion Cooling System

Description
This vacuum sizing tank is a core unit in high-speed extrusion lines for HDPE, PP, and other thermoplastic pipes. It is engineered to rapidly cool, calibrate, and stabilize molten extruded pipes immediately after they exit the die head, ensuring precise dimensional accuracy, roundness, and consistent wall thickness throughout the production process.

1. Core Cooling & Sizing System
The tank is designed with a dual-function cooling configuration:
Immersion Cooling: The main chamber maintains a controlled water level, allowing the pipe to pass through a fully submerged cooling zone for efficient, uniform heat transfer.
Spray Cooling: High-pressure water spray nozzles are installed along the length of the tank, providing direct, targeted cooling to the pipe’s outer surface. This combination of immersion and spray cooling delivers faster heat dissipation and prevents uneven shrinkage or warping.
2. Vacuum System Configuration
To maintain the pipe’s circular shape and dimensional stability against internal pressure during cooling, the system includes a multi-stage vacuum setup:
3 x Vacuum Pumps: Three independent vacuum pumps create and maintain negative pressure within the tank. These pumps are controlled by variable frequency drives (VFDs), allowing precise adjustment of vacuum levels according to pipe diameter, wall thickness, and line speed.

3 x Water-Air Separators: Each vacuum pump is paired with a dedicated water-air separator. These units remove moisture and water droplets from the vacuum airflow, protecting the pumps from damage and ensuring stable vacuum performance.
Adjustable Vacuum Zones: The tank is divided into multiple vacuum zones, each with independent pressure control. This allows for progressive calibration, with vacuum levels tailored to the pipe’s cooling stage, preventing deformation and ensuring consistent roundness.

3. Water Circulation System
1 x Water Circulation Pump: A dedicated centrifugal pump circulates cooling water through the spray nozzles and immersion chamber. This pump ensures continuous flow of filtered, temperature-controlled water to maintain uniform cooling conditions.
Water Filtration & Recirculation: The system is designed for closed-loop water recirculation, with provisions for filtration to remove debris and maintain water quality, reducing maintenance and ensuring long-term performance.
4.End-Side Air Blower System

At the exit end of the tank, two high-speed air blowers are installed, each equipped with a variable frequency drive (VFD). These blowers perform two key functions:

Surface Drying: They blow high-velocity air onto the pipe’s outer surface, removing residual water droplets after cooling. This prevents water carry-over to downstream equipment (such as haul-off units or cutting machines) and ensures accurate measurement and processing.

Adjustable Airflow: The VFD control allows precise adjustment of blower speed and airflow volume, accommodating different pipe sizes and line speeds.

5.Control System

The entire tank operation is managed by a centralized PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) with a color touchscreen HMI (Human-Machine Interface):
Integrated Control: The PLC coordinates all system functions, including vacuum levels, water temperature, pump speeds, blower speeds, and zone pressure settings.
Touchscreen HMI: The user-friendly interface allows operators to set and monitor all process parameters, including vacuum pressure, water flow rate, blower speed, and pump status. It also displays real-time data, alarm conditions, and historical trends for process monitoring and troubleshooting.
VFD Integration: The variable frequency drives for the vacuum pumps and blowers are fully integrated into the control system, enabling smooth speed control, energy optimization, and precise matching of vacuum and airflow to production conditions.
Safety Features: The system includes emergency stop functions, pressure and temperature alarms, and interlocks to protect both the equipment and operators.
6. Mechanical & Structural Design
The tank is constructed from heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant materials (typically stainless steel) to withstand continuous contact with water and moisture. It features adjustable support rollers, height-adjustable stands, and guide mechanisms to ensure the pipe travels straight and centered through the tank. The modular design allows for easy maintenance, cleaning, and access to internal components.
